O2 and organic molecules are produced during photosynthesis and used in the respiration of cells. Glycolysis is the first pathway in cellular respiration. In order to move from glycolysis to the citric acid cycle, pyruvate molecules (the output of glycolysis) must be oxidized in a process called pyruvate oxidation. Glycolysis is an anaerobic process, while the other two pathways are aerobic. Sunlight provides energy to an ecosystem, and heat is released as it leaves. Cellular respiration is a collection of three unique metabolic pathways: glycolysis, the citric acid cycle, and the electron transport chain. Some animals eat plants, and there are other creatures that consume plants. It keeps these animals warm and helps to keep a constant internal temperature. Overview: Life Is Work External sources of energy are necessary for living cells. In birds and mammals, this heat is distributed around the body by the blood. As animals respire, heat is also released. Cellular respiration is the process that living cells undergo to produce chemical energy usable in a variety of cell functions. Respiration is only around 40 per cent efficient.
